The Problem of Silence
(Top Posts - Philosophy (FREELOVER) - 070100)

So, a bunch of people are gathered together and
someone says "Thank god ...." and the conversation
continues and discussions about church and making
sure the children go to church and so on and so forth
and ...

So, you don't believe in any of what's being said.
What are your options?

Silence? Well, that's the socially acceptable option as
people are OK with people being silent about religion.

A counter-view? Now, we're on socially shaky ground
as most people get their dander in a tizzy when people
openly offer counters to religious views.

Silence, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, silence,
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I fit in but something about
that silence, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, seems
wrong, somehow, to remain silent, almost as if by
remaining silent you're somehow supporting the system,
the effort to brainwash the children, the effort to create
god simply by wishing it to be so, hmmmmmmmmmm,
silence, there's got to be a better way.

What is that way? How do you counter the pro-church
pro-religion crowd without committing the ultimate
faux pas - - - public opposition to religion, and
furthermore, why is it OK for people to be openly
religious but it's socially verboten for people to be
openly free of religion.......... hmmmmmmmmmmm,
silence?

There's got to be a better way but we don't want to upset
the religious socially "in" crowd - hmmmmmmmmmmmm
or do we, maybe, just maybe, somehow, some way, want
to get people to ponder the advantages of freeing them-
selves from mental slavery, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, free-
dom from mental slavery, what a concept, that's got to
have some social clout to it, eh? Maybe? Do you think?
