Red Light

You're stopped at a red light.

No biggie.

Tick-tock-tick-tock.

The light's not changing.

Tick-tock-tick-tock.

. . . . . . . . . .

Come on, what's the deal?

Tick-tock-tick-tock.

. . . . . . . . . .

Somewhere along the way, we manage to find
the courage, the wisdom, to look both ways
and proceed through the red light.

How do we do that?

We've been raised to follow the rules, no
matter what. We all do it. We stop at red
lights and irregardless of the lack of passing
traffic, we wait for that green light to appear,
but only for so long . . .

How long is that, that undefined period of
time that we wait?

How do we decide to break the rules and go
ahead - what senses are at play? Surroundings?
Eye contact with fellow motorists? Intuition?

- - - - COMMON SENSE - - - - ???

Doesn't common sense make a lot more sense
than worship of rules, laws, and authority (reference
church, state, usenet rules for particulars)?
