Why
Am I Not You?
(Top Posts - Philosophy (General) - 081200)
and
why are you not me?
If
you were me, would you be me
or would you be you?
If
I were you, would I be you or
would I be me?
If
the sperm that fertilized the egg that
became me had not quite made it to
the egg that became me, would I be?
Likewise,
regarding your sperm and
egg, would you be you?
Interesting
that religion is obsessed with
the we that be but has not a clue about
the issues as presented above ...
Can
we imagine being someone other than
that which we are? Can we imagine not
existing at all?
Isn't,
after all is said and done, each of
our existences, our self-importance, our
focus on self, our oneness with our
perception of that which is real from
within our own physical boundaries,
isn't it all explainable and understandable
based on the simple facts of perpetuation
of that which we can and do call an
individual entity, apart from others,
while at the same time knowing (intuitively
if not logically) that each of us is but a
part of the whole, the everything, the all,
the totality of that which is whatever the
whole is?
Put
another way, don't we recognize and
identify with our position from within
our mortal limits based strictly on our
desires to perpetuate that which is part
of the genetic make-up of which we are
but a conscious and guiding part even
though our guidance is but an illusion
when viewed from the totality of that
which is (in terms of time, matter, and
space)?
Have
you ever tried to let go of the self,
let go of the separation you naturally feel
from your fellow beings, trying to bond
and identify with and exist as a totality of
matter apart from your own self-contained
interests? Have you ever tried to view the
totality of existence as a oneness with the
whole of all that is?
I'm
trying, right now, to do that with my
daughter and with Antz and with the 'hood'
and with the city and with the state and with
the country and with the continent and with
the hemisphere and with the planet and with
the solar system and with the local groups
of stars and with our segment of the Milky
Way Galaxy and with the Milky Way galaxy
and with our local cluster of galaxies and with
our super cluster of galaxies and with our
segment of galaxies in the universe and with
our universe and with the totality of that which
is all within our universe and whatever exists
outside the boundaries of that which we
recognize as our universe ...
...
and you know what?
I'm
feeling a oneness with the totality of that
which is the all, the natural everything that is
all that is and ...
it
feels wonderful ... my loneliness is no more ...
I am one with each and every creature and each
and every particle of matter and energy and that
which is unknown in all of time and space and ...
all
I feel is love ... pure ... total ... love ...
