Mob Mentality Rears Ugly Head in Seattle

Tuesday, August 29, 2001, a young woman, obviously distraught and suicidal, threatened to jump off of a bridge and end her life, in Seattle. A crowd, observing the young woman, shouted out to her to jump, yelling obscenities, showing callous disregard for her life, as if her life was of no value whatsoever.

This phenomenon, a group psychosis in response to an individual psychosis, is yet one more demonstration of all that is wrong with every aspect of a supposedly god-tripped existence most pretentiously go about treating as "normal" or "desirable".

If belief in god, which some 95 percent of this so-called christian country claim, is supposed to be of value, as for as helping your fellow humans, why for all that is decent and honorable did that belief in god come nowhere near mitigating the actions of the crowd?

Well, the typical disclaimer by christians and others of faith is that "the devil made them do it" or the "non-christians" did it, but seriously, is this not yet another example of how the pretentiousness of faith does little to mitigate the actions of the so-called faithful when it comes right down to it?

Why does faith fail to encourage pro-humanism in instances such as this? Because, in reality, the christian faith, and most other ancient-derived faiths, are nothing but "make believe" loaded with threats/guilt/hate, and when push comes to shove, it's the hate side of the faith that rears its ugly head rather than the aspects of faith religious leaders treat as the "real" faith (when they're not involved in threatening folks with hell and damnation).

The woman jumped. She survived and may recover, although she is in serious condition. The crowd went back to their mundane and pretentious lives of "make believe" used as an excuse for hate. Statistically speaking, about half of them will show up in church on Sunday and pray for forgiveness, as if by doing so they can justify going out and repeating the hate routine which acts as bookends for their Sunday rituals.

The Simpsons & Irreverence Rules

The Simpsons - icons of irreverence towards christian pretentiousness, yet a couple of Protestant mags recently offered some dollops of complements towards the 12-year cartoon. A religious writer (for the Orlando Sentinel) perceives the show as being pro-family and never doubting the existence of god (hmmmm, that's debatable).

Also, not receiving many barbs on the show, the jesus christ character of the christian, islamic, and jewish faiths (hey, that's one popular christ myth, but with widely differing interpretations, I suppose that's too hot to handle ... in America, that is).

Lest we forget, the cartoon was birthed long ago in a bit of a controversial spin-off from another show (Tracy ... something or other ... best I recall).

Some stats on the show ...

  • Religion an element in 70 percent of the shows and a major element in 10 percent of the shows
  • 80 percent of shows' writers have been skeptics or atheists
  • Episode 270 commences with the new season on Nov. 4th

Future of Fruit & Veggies? Healthalicious

Genetically modified fruits and vegetables, capable of yielding a desired health-giving protein and higher levels of vitamins than your ordinary product of nature, are being worked on by German scientists. In addition, these new "super-fruits" and "super-veggies" may be able to deliver vaccines, antibodies, and pharmaceuticals.

As for fears of genetic modification, the fruit being worked on, a tomato, has been developed in a manner that prevents its genes from passing on to other crops and weeds.
