A
Call for Perspective on the Attack on America
First
off, my deepest sympathies and condolences to all of America,
all of the dead, all of the wounded, all of the families and
friends of those killed and wounded, all of those fighting to
save lives, and all of those parts of the world which now feel
a much greater and deeper fear due to the horrific and inhuman
nature of the Tuesday attack. ...
There
are indications that the number of dead may not, and I caution,
this is *may not*, exceed 5,500 ... based on the following segment
of a report from the BBC ...
Bush
vows victory as US mourns
Excerpt: "... Almost 5,000 people remain missing in New
York, the victims buried beneath the wreckage of the World Trade
Center, the mayor said. Another 190 people are thought to have
died in the Pentagon in Washington. ..."
On
the news, just now, the New York mayor has mentioned that 4,700
remain missing ...
-
- -
So,
now for the perspective ...
o
Over 5,000 dead (total resulting from all the attacks), thousands
injured, most of the dead-injured suffering unimaginable horror
during the sneak attack, 2 great 110-story buildings which were
symbols of America and New York City - destroyed, many adjacent
buildings destroyed or devastated to the point where the buildings
will have to be demolished
o
Our symbol of national defense, the Pentagon, attacked and a
section destroyed with the resultant loss of life and injury
o
4 civilian planes hijacked and destroyed, 3 in suicide bombings
and 1 in an apparent fight-takeover by passengers to prevent
the suicide bombers from attacking another target ... the passengers
suffered in horror as the attacks played out
-
- -
Not
normally one with the willingness to seek comfort in the "it
could be worse" way of looking at things, *if* this same
surprise attack method had been used to attack a major sports
stadium during a major sporting event, the death toll may very
well have been tremendously higher.
Thank
goodness that the attackers were obsessed with targets that
despite their worst efforts, the overwhelming majority of people
were able to survive ...
-
- -
Now,
back to the bad news, under the "it could be worse, in
the future" way of looking at it ... the type of mindset
displayed, suicide for hate of others, remains a risk until
or unless the *philosophy and religious mindlessness* that promotes
this attitude is put in humankind's past ...
...
There was a time when most of the western world was subjugated
by a death for god attitude, resulting in the inquisition, crusades,
witch burnings, slaying of heretics, etc. ... horrific blackness
to the western world for the greater part of 1,000 years, with
those horrors resulting in ...
...
Hatred of Jews (by many Christian leaders and their followers,
a hatred culminating in the horrors committed in WW II) and
much later on (as Christian-Islam wars began to be played out)
Hate by segments of the Islam mindset of all that is now western
...
...
In atonement for the past, the western world has in large part
supported the state of Israel and due to the conflict / threats
that imposed upon the followers of Islam, the result has been
a deep and abiding hatred by many Muslims towards Israel and
all supporting Israel (especially the U.S. due to its leadership
of the western world) ...
So,
what is being played out, in the current day, is the result
of all the historical Hate and religious divisiveness which
has led us to this moment.
Yes,
we must fight those determined to destroy us and we must eliminate
that blight from the face of the earth -or- render it as impotent.
Yes,
we must protect ourselves in a manner far beyond our efforts
to date.
Yes,
we must build a national security against that evil and anti-human
mindset that remains a threat against all that is free and all
that is the best part of that which can be the human experience
on earth, -and-, furthermore ...
...
This is just the beginning ... chemical attacks, biological
attacks, even nuclear attacks will occur if we fail in our effort
to defend ourselves ... the life of each and every person who
is now free is at stake in this war ...
That
may sound alarmist, but that is the result of all that has been
at play, in human history, to this time ... and such is our
fate.
